On October 1, Brandon went 'foot to foot' with Brantford, Ontario for the largest number of people participating in a 30-minute walk. Brandon claimed the title with 7,310 walkers. Brantford, where it rained, drew 4,161. His Worship, Mayor Dave Burgess, was on hand for the official announcement during Brandon’s Workplace Wellness Forum held October 23, 2008, where he congratulated all of the participants on behalf of City Council. "Of course we are proud to have won the title, but we would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the citizens of Brantford Ontario. It is very encouraging to witness such active and healthy initiatives on the part of the organizers and the participants." Brandon beat their own record set during the World Record Walk, held October 3, 2007 and spearheaded by Green Communities Canada, when 1,310 people participated.
