Brantford

On June 14, 2010, City Council passed a resolution indicating that all city staff are directed to include the principles of walkability, as listed in the International Charter for Walking, when undertaking future Official Five Year Reviews, up-dating the Site Plan Control Guidelines, and preparing any other policies, plans, and policy implementation tools. There is no end in sight to the 'walkolution' in Brantford!

In 2010, Brantford was one of three winners of Green Communities' Canada Walks Ontario Walkability Award of Excellence.

In 2010, the Brantford Walkability Task Force changed it's name to the Brantford Active Transportation Group. This name change will allow the Group to expand its focus to include all forms of active transportation in the community. The "Mission" was updated to read: "envision a community that supports active transportation modes that are safe, accessible, convenient and attractive".

In May 2011, Mayor Friel introduced and Council unanimously passed a resolution to bring together a 'study group' of all stakeholders to "make downtown Brantford the most walkable downtown in Canada".
