Canada WALKS

Peterborough

One of the key issues during the Walkability Roadshow was the journey to school so to strengthen the local Active & Safe Routes to School program a pilot neighbourhood mapping project of best walking routes was undertaken at two schools. Public information sessions are scheduled to present ‘Walkable George Street’ along with another local walkability project. In the area of policy a Sidewalk Strategic Plan has been created with multi-sectoral input from across the City, and earlier in the year City Council adopted a 14-year implementation schedule for priority 1 and 2 sidewalks as identified in the strategic plan. Along the same lines, a Provision of Sidewalk Policy was created that states that sidewalks should be provided on both sides of the street in all re-developments and new developments.
